Description
The Old Methodist Chapel, built in 1845 and altered around 1880, is now used as a Sunday School room. It is constructed of red brick in English bond with painted ashlar dressings and has a slate roof. The building features a gable end facing the road, adorned with a dogtooth verge. There are three tall blank semi-circular arched recesses, each with ashlar keystones and impost blocks. A central projecting gabled porch, added around 1880, has a semi-circular outer door with key and impost blocks, a dogtooth verge, and is flanked by single Gothick glazing bar sash windows set in semi-circular arches with keyblocks. An ashlar plaque in the gable is inscribed "Wesleyan Chapel 1845." The side walls contain pairs of glazing bar sashes with segmental brick heads. The chapel is connected by a brick link to a later church, which is not of special interest.
