Description

The cross base and stocks in Swineshead Market Place date from the 14th century and 18th century. They are made of limestone ashlar and timber. The structure features a square base with three steps leading to the base of the cross. To the south of the cross base are the wooden stocks, which consist of two posts and a panel that contains two sets of holes. The weekly market in Swineshead was very significant until the 17th century, and an annual fair is still held in October.
