Description
Lowtoft Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1664, designed in the Fen Artisan Mannerist style, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in English bond and features a pantile roof, brick coped gables, and two brick gable stacks. The building has a T-shaped plan and is two storeys plus a garret, with a four-bay front that includes a plinth and a first-floor band that rises over the window openings.
The entrance is an off-centre 20th-century door with a basket-arched head, set in a rusticated brick surround. To the right of the door is a semi-circular headed niche with a brick hood and a rectangular surround that is attached to the first-floor band. Above this niche is a detached brick pediment containing an ashlar datestone inscribed with the year 1664. The right side of the building features a single 19th-century margin light sash window, while the left side has a pair of similar windows. On the first floor, there are three more windows of the same style, all with brick segmental heads. Remnants of earlier window designs can be seen, including a straight joint and springing for basket-shaped arched heads.
The gable end of the farmhouse has a brick dogtoothed band and two small, blank, semi-circular headed openings on the first floor. At the rear, there is a lower single-storey service range with a brick coped tumbled gable. Inside, the farmhouse features moulded beams with ogee stops.
