Description

Old Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1669, as indicated by a re-set datestone in the north gable, with later additions. The structure is made of coursed flint, featuring occasional brick headers and brick dressings, and has a pantile roof. The original block has undergone partial rebuilding in the 19th century at the southern end of the facade, along with an early side addition to the north and later additions to the rear.

The building is two storeys high with an attic. It has a slightly advanced, off-centre entrance bay with a skewback arch leading to a doorway beneath a moulded brick platband, which is now mostly hidden by a modern porch. There is a blocked window opening above the entrance. The central section features former long windows, which have been altered to include two 3-light mullion and transom windows with metal casements on the ground floor, and one 2-light and one 3-light casement above. Additionally, there is a 3-light mullion and transom window beneath a skewback arch with a cambered soffit to the south of the porch, along with a 3-light casement above. The northern extension has modern windows.

The farmhouse also has three gabled dormers with decorative barge boards and one surviving original window at the rear, which is a 3-light window with ovolo-moulded mullions. The chimney features one 17th-century off-centre axial stack with three angled shafts, one gable-end stack, and one on the rear pitch. The south gable-end has a modern canted bay and a gable with tumbling-in.

Inside, the original block contains two ovolo-moulded spinal bridging joists, and the northern extension features ogee and nicked chamfer stops. Notable interior elements include fine 18th-century panel paintings, which consist of an overmantel landscape depicting a picturesque ruin and two narrow floral still-life paintings flanking doorways. The roof has been modernized.
