Description
The Lodge is a single-storey building, dating from around 1830, and is likely designed by W.J. Donthorn. It serves as the lodge to Elmham House and is constructed of brick with gault brick and stone dressings, topped with a plaintile roof. The building has a T-shaped plan, with the stem of the T oriented towards the drive side. It features three bays, with a doorway located on the cross wing facade. Each of the other sides consists of a single bay, marked by twin gault brick pilasters at the corners. The original windows are mullion and transom style, complete with moulded stone hood moulds that extend from a stringcourse of the same design. A boarded door is situated on the drive side gable-end. The eaves are notably wide, supported by plain square-sectioned brackets. The structure has three gables, one of which is roughcast, and displays the Sonde family arms on the drive side along with the motto "Esto quod esse videris" and the family crest on the road side. A central chimney stack is topped with four tall octagonal shafts.
