Description

Knowts Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1666, refronted in 1772, with some 20th-century alterations and additions. The building is constructed of coursed rubble stone with flush quoins and has been refronted in red brick. It features a plain tile roof with brick gable and ridge stacks. The farmhouse has three storeys and five bays.

On the west side, there is an off-centre flat arched doorcase with a 20th-century panelled door, which is sheltered by an unusual 20th-century semi-circular porch supported by concrete columns and topped with a flat roof. Flanking the door are 20th-century small pane bow windows set in 18th-century openings, along with a blocked doorcase, a glazing bar sash, and another 20th-century bow window. The upper floors have four glazing bar sashes, with three smaller sashes above and a 2-light casement window in its original opening to the west. The windows on both the first and second floors are below thin metal lintels.

The west gable wall features two 17th-century, 2-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows with dripmoulds, positioned one above the other. Above these windows, in the brick gable, are two datestones, one inscribed 'HM 1666' and the other 'NM 1772'. The rear elevation includes one 17th-century window and 20th-century extensions. Inside, the farmhouse has 18th-century raised and fielded doors, along with a similar wall cupboard in the eastern room.
