Description

The Jessop Monument is a viewing platform built in 1858 with funds raised from public subscriptions. It stands approximately 30 feet high and is constructed from ashlar and cast iron. The monument is designed in the style of a tall Tuscan column set on a deep plinth, featuring a large cast iron capital that supports a square viewing platform with plain railings. The column has small slit windows at regular intervals and blocked doorcases on two sides of the base. The monument is located in Jessop Park, a recreational area established by the Butterley Iron Company for its workers.
