Description

The Britannia Public House is a public house and shop located on Church Street in Boston. It dates from the early 18th century, with mid-19th century and 20th century alterations. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with stucco and pantile roofs, and features a gable stack.

The exterior includes a left-hand section that is three storeys high, curved at the corner, and has a curved panelled door with a glazing bar overlight. To the left, there is a glazing bar sash window, and to the right, two tripartite sashes along with another panelled door and overlight. All these elements are accented by plain pilasters beneath a fascia and cornice.

To the right is a two-storey block finished in lined stucco, which has an altered 19th-century shop front. Above this, there is a divided sash window, and on either side of the corner, there are glazing bar sashes with eared stucco surrounds supported on sill brackets, found on both the first and second floors.

At the rear, there is a small parallel range beside the river, made of stucco with coped gables. This section is three storeys high with two bays, although the ground floor is obscured by a modern extension. The first floor features two irregular windows, while the second floor has a glazing bar sash.

Inside, the public house retains bar fittings from around 1900.
