Description
Mill Farmhouse, along with the adjoining mill and stable block, is a farmhouse and mill building dating from the mid-18th century. The farmhouse is rough cast over brick and has two storeys with a two-unit plan featuring opposed entries away from a central stack. The front entrance has a six-panel door topped by a small projecting wooden pediment supported by brackets. The ground floor has triple light casements with segmental heads, while the upper floor features horizontal sliding sashes. Inside, there is an ingle-nook type fireplace with a moulded bressummer, and the internal doors, which are two-panel with brass fittings, appear to be original.
At the back, there is a small two-storey wing built into the bank, and to the left, there is a lower adjoining stable block with a central doorway and a loft opening above. The mill is constructed of Flemish bond brickwork, although much of it is obscured by ivy. Two openings with brick arched heads can be seen in the gable, with additional openings on the south elevation. The remains of a mill pond and sluice are visible behind the house, indicating that it was likely an overshot mill.
