Description

The Manor House, built in the early 18th century, features Flemish bond brickwork on an ashlar plinth and a hipped slate roof. It has three storeys and a double pile plan with a symmetrical facade. The central doorway is accessed by semi-circular steps and includes a six-panel door with an overlight, framed by a stone lintel and moulded architrave. There are two 12-light sash windows on each side of the door, with ganged brick heads and stone keystones that support stone string courses. The upper storey is shorter and has three windows. The plain eaves cornice is complemented by dentilled brick eaves on the side elevations, which also feature segmental arched windows.

Inside, the early 18th-century oak well staircase has turned balusters and wainscot. The front left room showcases early 18th-century painted panelling, while the left rear room contains Jacobean panelling, possibly from an earlier house on the site. The Manor House is built on the site of a commandery of the Knights Hospitalers of St. John of Jerusalem, with the manor of Heather granted to them around 1170. The stone walls of the cellar are believed to have belonged to this commandery. The house is situated within a walled garden that adjoins the church.
