Description

Mill House, Cottage, and Stables are located on Mill Lane in Long Whatton. The mill house dates from around 1755, with the cottage and stables added in the late 18th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick.

The mill house features a corbelled dentil eaves cornice, Swithland slates on the front pitch, Welsh slates on the rear, and brick chimneys with gable copings. It is two storeys high with an attic and comprises three bays. The windows are three-light wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars, and the central light is a horizontal sliding sash. The upper windows have transoms. A flush-panelled door with a flat wooden cornice hood is located between the left bays. There is an extension with a lean-to roof projecting from the ground floor left bay, leading to the mill. The rear of the house has tall stair windows and attic windows that cut through the eaves cornice.

The cottage and stables are also made of red brick and have a plain tile roof, with dentil eaves and brick chimneys on the cottage, and a coped gable on the right. The cottage is two storeys high with two bays featuring three-light horizontal sashes, the ground floor left window having a segmental head. The left bay has a flush-panelled top-lit door, also with a segmental head. There is a diaper vent to the right of the ground floor window. The stable has small rectangular windows flanking a central stable door, along with vent slits, and a loft door with a segmental head in the gable end.
