Description

Stoneleigh House is a house, formerly a farmhouse, dating from circa 1830, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of squared limestone with a slate roof and stone end stacks, including paired square stone stacks. The building is arranged in a T-shaped plan. The facade is two storeys high with a three-window range. A 20th-century window now occupies the central position, replacing a former doorway, and is set beneath a stone lintel and hood mould. Original 12-pane sash windows are above, and 16-pane sashes are present on the ground and first floors to the left and right, all with stone lintels and hood moulds. The central bay projects forward and features a stone-coped gable with kneelers and a Jacobean-style stone finial at the apex. Other external detailing includes a chamfered plinth, quoins, and stone-coped gables with kneelers. The interior contains an open-well staircase with stick balusters, a ramped and wreathed mahogany handrail, and scrolled tread ends.
