Description
The Former Corn Exchange is an Italianate building from 1854, located on Nottingham Street. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings, featuring quoins and a heavy eaves cornice supported by paired brackets, topped with a blocking course. The building has a central polygonal wooden turret and stands two storeys tall.
The façade includes three windows, with the centre section projecting forward. The first floor showcases round arched sash windows with glazing bars, framed by stone architraves and stone bracketed labels. On the ground floor, there are three round arches, which house two late 19th century to early 20th century shop fronts in the outer arches. The central entrance features eight-panelled doors and a fanlight above.
The Former Corn Exchange is part of a group that includes Nos 10 to 18 (even) and the White Lion Public House, along with Nos 37 and 37A.
