Description

This is an 1878 Magistrates Courthouse and an adjoining house, built in the Italianate style. The courthouse is constructed of white brick with stone dressings, and has a roof that is not visible. It has two storeys and six windows, with the outer bays projecting. The windows are unbarred sashes, with round arched heads, stone archivolts, keystones, and stone bands connecting them at the sill height. A stone cornice runs above the ground floor. The outer doorways feature Gibbs treatment to engaged columns and are topped by pediments. The round-arched entrances have keystones, archivolts, and simple round fanlights. The doors are of eight panels. The adjoining house, originally built as a Police Station, is of similar brick construction with a tiled roof and end chimneys. This house has two storeys, three unbarred sashes, a decorative band at the first floor level and an eaves cornice. The centre door is panelled, with a plain rectangular fanlight and a simple hood supported on brackets. Number 13 forms a group with the courthouse and adjoining house opposite.
