Description
The Hermitage is a house dating from the late 18th century, with a late 19th century brick and half-timbered rear addition, and 20th century alterations. It is constructed of brick and features Swithland slate roofs, with four gable stacks, two of which are external, and a single lateral stack. The house is three storeys high and has three bays, forming an L-plan.
The front of the house has a central former doorway, which now contains a glazing bar sash, flanked by single triple sashes set in wider recessed openings. All these openings are topped with wooden cornice hoods. Above these, there are three sashes, and above again, three 20th century casements, with the rightmost window having two lights. All windows feature flat brick arches. The north gable has two 20th century bow windows. To the right, there are 20th century single storey additions with a door and three casements. The rear wing has two glazing bar sashes with segmental heads above, and to the right, two garret casements. The south side features a late 19th century addition with a French window to the left, and a late 20th century bow window to the right. Above, there is irregular fenestration from the 19th and 20th centuries.
