Description

Ivy Cottage is an early 18th-century cottage, with alterations from the 19th century and additions from the 20th century. It is constructed of timber framing and brick, with brick nogging, and has a rubble plinth. The roof is thatched and slate-covered, with two gable stacks, one of which is external and larger. The front elevation features a 19th-century lean-to porch with a slate roof and a 20th-century panelled door within a moulded surround. To the right of the porch are two 19th-century casement windows with three lights. Further to the right is a 20th-century lean-to addition with two small casement windows. Above, a small, glazing bar casement is centrally positioned, flanked by single thatched gabled dormers, each containing a cross eaves, two-light, leaded casement. A 20th-century rear wing has two casements facing north, and there are thatched dormers on each side. The south gable displays an exposed corner post, tie beam, collar and queen posts. The interior reveals remnants of four bay posts, one being jowled, with a mid rail, along with two chamfered span beams. The roof is a single purlin principal rafter construction.
