Description
The summerhouse, originally a pigeoncote, is located 70 meters north of Ashby Folville Manor and dates from the mid-18th century. It was converted in the late 19th century and has some 20th-century additions. The structure is built of brick with a dressed stone plinth and features a pyramidal roof made of Swithland slate. It is a single-storey, single-bay building with a square plan.
On the west side, there is a mid-20th-century lean-to open shelter that covers a chamfered brick doorway with a hood mould. Above the doorway, there are timber-framed gabled dormers on each side, which have thick glazing bar fixed lights and louvres. At the top of the building is a square timber-framed cupola that has a clock on the west face and thick glazing bar fixed lights on the other sides. The cupola is topped with an ogee leaded cap supported by shaped brackets, along with a finial and an iron weather vane.
Inside, the summerhouse features brick nest boxes and an elaborate clock mechanism with a bell. The roof structure is cross-framed with king post trusses.
