Description
The Canal Bridge over the former Melton Canal is an early 19th-century structure designed by Cooke and Sons Engineers of Melton. This cast iron bridge features a balustrade adorned with Gothic arches, which are arched at both the top and bottom, arranged singly and in pairs. The canal elevations on both sides include a central finely scrolled bracket and a panelled base. The south side displays the maker's name and date on a plaque. The bridge has octagonal end piers with a band and polygonal cap, while the piers on the towpaths are shorter on the north side. The south side also has additional gate piers. The bridge is depicted on a map from 1839 as 'Navigation Bridge'.
