Description
The Birches is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a slate roof with brick end stacks. The building has two storeys and is characterized by pilaster quoins, a band above the first floor, and a dentilled brick eaves cornice. The front has three windows, with a shallow central brick projection. The windows are glazing bar sashes set in open boxes, topped with gauged brick heads. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed door framed by a later 19th-century wooden surround, which includes a pentice hood. To the left on the ground floor, there is a later 19th-century wide square bay window. At the time of the resurvey in February 1988, the building was undergoing repairs and refurbishment.
