Description

Odstone Hall is a house, later used as a farmhouse, likely dating from the 17th century but remodelled in the later 18th century. The front of the house is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, while the rear consists of timber-framed and brick ranges. It has a hipped slate roof and brick end stacks to the left. The house has three storeys, featuring a modillion eaves cornice; the proportions of the second floor are reduced. The front facade has a 2:2:2 window arrangement, with a slightly projecting central bay topped with a pediment. The windows are glazing bar sashes with rusticated lintels and raised key blocks. A Venetian window is located on the first floor centre, topped with a pediment over the central light. A tripartite window sits at the centre of the second floor. A central six-panel door is flanked by Doric columns and an open pediment over a fanlight, and further flanked by narrow round-headed sashes. Behind the 18th-century front is an irregular grouping of 17th and 18th-century wings; most of the rear windows are casements with segmental heads. Some roofs are covered with graded Swithland slate. Inside, there is a 17th-century open-well staircase with turned balusters, a roll-moulded handrail, and a foot newel with a ball finial in the entrance hall. The stairwell and the entrance passage leading to the kitchen feature plaster wall panels with moulded surrounds. A front room to the right has a pair of cross beams with plaster panelling featuring coats of arms, an 18th-century fireplace with a moulded surround, and a panelled dado. Exposed timber framing is visible in the rear rooms.
