Description

Shackerstone Railway Station is a railway station built around 1873. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features hipped slate roofs with bracketed oversailing eaves and brick ridge stacks. The building is aligned north-south, with the west front facing the station yard. The main block is single-storey and has lower single-storey wings that are set back slightly. The main block has a rhythm of three bays, with a projecting central section. All windows are sash style, featuring raised and moulded surrounds, raised keys, scrolled sides, and bracketed sills. The central windows of the two outer portions are larger. The entrance includes a central two-leaf panelled door with an overlight and a surround similar to the windows. The left-hand wing has a central doorway and a window to the right, while the right-hand wing has three windows, with the centre one being larger.

On the east front, there is a five-bay open centre portion supported by cast iron columns and openwork brackets. Each side has three windows; the right-hand wing features a central door and two flanking windows, while the left-hand wing has a door to the left and a window to the right. Shackerstone railway station was designed and built by the Midland Railway Company and served the line between Hinckley/Nuneaton and Ashby/Coalville, with passenger services commencing on 1st September 1873.
