Description

The Wycliffe Memorial is a stone structure dedicated to John Wycliffe, who lived from 1324 to 1384. It was completed in June 1897. The memorial features an obelisk set on a granite plinth, which is elevated by four steps leading to a higher rough-hewn granite plinth that supports a stepped pedestal. The base has a panelled foot with inscriptions, a coved knop, and a tall obelisk rising above. The main inscription reads 'John Wycliffe/ Born 1324/ Died 1384/ Rector of Lutterworth/ from 1374 to 1384.' Additional inscriptions provide details about the memorial's erection.
