Description

17 and 18 Cross Bank is a house, which may have originally been two separate dwellings, dating from the 18th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with quoins and features a roof made of Collyweston slate, Welsh slate, and corrugated tiles, supported by four brick stacks at the ridge and ends. The building has a long range with four sections. The right section, from the 18th century, is two storeys high and has three casement windows: a central three-light window with two-light windows on either side. There is a central door with an overlight, and the glazing bars form a diamond pattern. Between the first-floor windows, there are two blank stone tablets. The right end features a 1/1 sash window and a rendered stone coped gable. The left end consists of two sections built around 1800 and the early 19th century, also two storeys high. From the left, there is a centre-opening three-light casement with a brick cambered lintel, an 8/8 sash window, and a two-light casement above a similar three-light window, along with two 8/12 sash windows. The left end of this section has a 16-storey build that is blank to the road, with a loft door on the first floor in the brick coped left gable. The adjoining building, No. 16, is located at the rear of the right section.
