Description
Smith's Cottage, located adjoining Forge Mews to the east and approximately 10 meters north of The Old House, is a cottage dating from around 1700. It is primarily timber framed, with a rubble stone plinth and red brick and mud nogging. The roof is covered with corrugated iron, with thatch in some areas, and features two brick ridge stacks, one of which is rendered. The left gable is brick coped, while the right gable is weather-boarded. The cottage has one and a half storeys and includes two three-light casements, with the right one having a cambered lintel. There is a two-light eyebrow dormer and a small one-light window on the first floor. The center and left sections consist of two and a half bays of large panel timber framing. On the left end, there is a two-light casement with a two-light horizontal sliding sash above, both with cambered lintels. A door is located at the rear, along with additional timber framing. Inside, the cottage features chamfered beams, two inglenooks, a four-bay single-purlin tie-beam truss roof, and wide floorboards. Forge Mews is noted as not being of listable quality.
