Description
NEVILL HOLT
405/0/10008 Memorial Gates at Nevill Holt Hall 15-JAN-02
GV II
Memorial gates and screen. c.1950. Wrought iron with stone ashlar end piers and low walls. The ensemble consists of tall iron carriageway and pedestrian gates interspersed with lengths of screen set on low stone walls. At either end a pier with moulded top surmounted by a stone urn. The fine design includes panels with lilies within lancets and the main gates have an integral feature like an overthrow. 2 panels record the names of the 30 Old Boys of Nevill Holt Preparatory School who died in the 2nd World War. The gates form part of a very significant group with Nevill Holt Hall (qv) and Stableblock at Nevill Holt Hall (qv).
