Description
The gate, gate piers, and flanking walls at the front of Horkstow Hall date back to 1776, while the gates and overthrow are likely from the early 19th century. The gate piers are made of ashlar stone and feature ashlar coping on a brick wall. The wrought-iron gates and overthrow are notable for their design. The square-section piers have a chamfered plinth, vermiculated rustication, a modillioned cornice, and remnants of former cone finials. The overthrow includes a central urn finial surrounded by scrollwork. The gates themselves are adorned with bars that have ornate finials, wavy dog bars positioned below the middle rail, and a ramped top rail. The dwarf walls have moulded coping that ramps up to the gate and at each end, with an inserted gate on the left side and a rusticated ashlar stump of a former pier at the right end.
