Description
Red Roofs is a house located on the north side of Main Street in Houghton on the Hill. It dates from the late 16th century to the 17th century and has been slightly raised. The building is likely cruck framed and features whitewashed rendered brick with a plinth and a thatched roof, which has two brick ridge stacks and a stack at the right end.
The house has one and a half storeys and includes five casement windows, with three lights, except for the second window from the left, which has two lights. There is a central recessed door that is sheltered by a thatched canopy. The roof also features three eyebrow dormers: two with three lights and one with two lights, along with a two-light dormer under the eaves to the right. It is noted in a Cruck Construction research report from 1981 that the building is said to be cruck framed.
