Description

Fargate Farmhouse is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with an addition from the 18th century. It is timber-framed with brick nogging, and partially retains mud walling. The roof is covered with corrugated iron over earlier thatch, featuring two brick ridge stacks. The windows are predominantly 3-light casements, with a 2-light horizontal sliding sash window on the first floor to the left. There are two eyebrow dormers above. A plank door is located on the left-hand side. Visible on the front of the cottage are two wall posts, and further fragments of timber framing are visible to the rear. A single-storey extension of red brick, with a Swithland slate roof, is located on the right-hand side. Inside this extension is a re-used beam inscribed ‘A.H. 1693’.
