Description
Quorn Hunt Kennels and stabling, dated 1905. The building is constructed of red brick with a Welsh slate roof, brick ridge details, and end stacks. It is designed in an English vernacular style. The central entrance block is two storeys high with five three-light and four-light casement windows. A carriage entrance is centrally located and features a rounded arch. There is a gable on either side with a ground floor canted bay. Stone coping is used on the gables and parapet, the gables are shouldered. A stone tablet above the entrance is inscribed “Q.H. 1905.” A distinctive elaborate wood and lead clock tower rises above the entrance with a clock face displaying Roman numerals. Above the clock face is a balustrade with turned balusters, an open octagonal lantern with a leaded roof, a finial, and a wrought-iron weathervane. Extending to either side of the central block, the building turns at right angles and extends to the rear, forming a range of single-storey outbuildings. A two-storey stable range, with a gable opposite the entrance arch, forms the fourth side of a quadrangle. This stable range has a canted bay with sash windows and a four-light casement window above. To the left of the main quadrangle are a series of one-and-one-half storey kennel buildings, with exercise yards enclosed by iron railings. The building is notable as part of an impressive group with three cottages and a house.
