Description

The Thatched Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, situated on High Street in Syston. The building has a timber frame with rough cast rendering visible on the wall plate and two vertical studs above the entrance. It sits on a plinth and is topped with a thatched roof. The house is arranged over 1 1/2 storeys and comprises four units in a baffle entry plan. The right-hand bay, distinguished by a higher plinth, contains a single, small window. A three-light casement window is located to the right of the doorway, with an angle in the wall at this point. Two further casement windows, of two and three lights respectively, are situated to the left of the door, which is sheltered by a gabled porch. Three eyebrow dormers each contain a two-light casement window. Large axial stacks are positioned behind the entrance. The gables are brick-coped.
