Description

The gazebo located on the corner of the garden of No. 173, next to the school, is likely from the 18th century. It is constructed from granite and slate rubble stone and features a pointed Swithland slate roof. The structure is a small circular tower with two storeys. It has a door with a slate lintel and a brick surround at the base, along with small one-light openings and tiny slits above. Locally, it is often referred to as a lock-up; however, given that there is a pair of similar structures at opposite ends of the site of Old Swithland Hall, it is more probable that they serve as folly boundary towers or gazebos.
