Description
The former filter beds, water tank, and steps at Cropston Reservoir Water Works were built around 1880 by J.B. Everard of Leicester. The structure features blue brick lining walls, stone edges, and cast iron railings surrounding a slate-covered tank and stone steps. There are flights of steps with side parapets and piers leading down eastward from the 1870 pumping house to four filter beds that have an elongated octagonal shape. These filter beds are arranged around central covered slate slabs, with cast iron railings and a small central metal ventilation lantern. The complex is set in a park-like environment with a variety of trees and shrubs.
