Description

The former filter beds, water tank, and steps at Cropston Reservoir Water Works were built in 1870 by J.B. Everard of Leicester. The structure features granite and slate rubble stone lining walls, stone edges, and cast iron railings surrounding the tank and steps. There are flights of steps with side parapets and piers topped with decorative elements leading down south from the 1870 pumping house to six filter beds arranged in an elongated octagonal plan. Four of the filter beds are positioned around a central covered octagonal draw-off tank, while the other two are located to the south. The tank's balustrade is made of cast iron in a Tudor style, complete with spear head finials and piers topped with ball finials. The entire complex is set in a park-like environment with a variety of trees and shrubs.
