Description

This building is a school constructed in 1860, designed in the Puginian gothic style by W. Millican. It is made of granite rubble, featuring decorative bands of ashlar and brick, with a Swithland slate roof and coped gables. The structure is long and low, with a prominent large gable that interrupts the eaves line.

On the left side of the front elevation, there is an archway framed by a shouldered stone architrave that leads to a recessed porch. Inside the porch, there are two doors on either side, each with shouldered wood cases. To the right of the porch, there are two large quatrefoil openings located just beneath the eaves, made of stone. The large coped gable to the right contains an ashlar section with a blank arch made of stone and brick, featuring a continuous line without capitals, a blank circle at its apex, and the date of construction.

The ground floor has paired archways with shouldered architraves, supported by a squat central marble column that has a foliate capital and a deep base. At the top of the gable, there is a small and elegant cupola made of timber, topped with a lead fleche. To the right of the gable, there are two more quatrefoil openings and a buttress. The roof has two dormers, one on each side of the gable.

On the northeast side wall, there is a large stone and brick trefoiled archway that surrounds a three-lancet window with a quatrefoil above it. Additionally, there is a trefoiled opening in the apex of the gable.
