Description
Forge Cottage is a cottage that likely dates back to the early 16th century. It is timber framed, now featuring brick infill, and has a thatched roof. The building has one and a half storeys and consists of six bays with large timbered panels, resting on a high rubble plinth. The central three bays lack a middle rail, which suggests that there may have been a former open hall. Some arch braces are present. To the right, there are two narrower bays and one to the left that include a middle rail. The doorway is located in the third bay from the right, with a stack positioned behind it. Each of the other bays contains a two-light casement window with a cambered brick head. In the right-hand bay, the plinth is interrupted, indicating a possible former doorway. There are three catslide dormers above. In the gable wall, the framing consists of square panels with arch braces, and the gable itself features two inclined struts above the tie beam, one on each side of a small window.
