Description
New Bridge is a road bridge built in 1834 and restored around 1980. It is constructed of red brick with cast iron strengthening and ashlar dressings. The bridge features a large central segmental skewed arch, flanked by outer cast iron arches on either side. An iron plaque inscribed with the date 1834 and iron bosses securing tie rods are located within the arch. On either side of the bridge, there are curved ashlar cutwaters, above which are pairs of plain Doric pilasters with chamfered caps that match the coping of the parapet. The abutments have smaller shallow skewed side arches, also with ashlar cutwaters, but these have refaced brick facades.
