Description

The stables at Belgrave Hall, dated 1710, are constructed from red brick and feature a slate roof that is hipped at one end and gabled at the other. The building has a moulded brick eaves cornice and moulded brick gable parapets. It has hipped dormers with moulded eaves and an L-shaped plan, consisting of one storey and an attic. Each wing has a gabled slight projection that includes segmental arch carriage entrances with elliptical openings above. One of these entrances has a double carriage opening, with the date 1710 highlighted in darker bricks and a brick drip moulding over the gable opening. The stables also feature mullion and transom casements with glazing bars, as well as brick chimney stacks topped with moulded brick cornices. The stables are part of a group that includes St Peter's Church, Belgrave Hall and Garden Walls, a monument to Edward Holdsworth, the gateway and railings to Belgrave Gardens, Belgrave House and Stables, all located on Church Road, along with Cross Corners in Thurcaston Road.
