Description

Cross Corners is an early 18th century red brick house located on Thurcaston Road in Belgrave. It features a slate roof with gabled ends and two hipped dormers that contain sash windows. The building stands two storeys tall with an attic and has five windows in total. The front is plain, adorned with a moulded brick eaves cornice and a small plinth. The windows have segmental brick arches and are sashes with glazing bars set in moulded cases. The central door is recessed and framed by a good wood case that includes a dentil cornice and pediment, flat pilasters, and fielded-panel reveals.

To the left, there is a mid-19th century projecting wing made of brick, also two storeys high with one window featuring sashes with glazing bars, a slate hipped roof, and brick modillion eaves. The property includes a small brick area wall (with missing railings) and a red brick garden wall to the right, approximately ten feet high, which has a segmental arch doorway. This wall is included for group value.

Cross Corners forms a good group with St Peter's Church, Belgrave Hall and Garden Walls, Stables and Monument to Edward Holdsworth, and the Gateway and Railings to Belgrave Gardens, as well as Belgrave House and Stables, all located on Church Road.
