Description

This is a house dating from the 17th century, with additions and alterations circa 1820 and 1880. It is constructed of Charnwood granite, red brick, and render, with slate roofs, and features two gable, one ridge, and two wall stacks. The main front has a central doorway protected by a gabled wooden porch with a glazed outer door and a panelled inner door with an overlight. Flanking the doorway are single plain sashes, and above these are three glazing bar sashes linked by a continuous sill, all with painted wedge lintels. A projecting late 19th-century wing is located to the left, featuring a gabled front, a canted bay window on the ground floor, and a single plain sash above. The rear façade includes a central projecting gabled porch with a plank door and overlight. To the left are single sliding sashes on each floor, and to the right is a 20th-century casement above. A projecting 17th-century wing is constructed of Charnwood granite, alongside a 19th-century lean-to with rendered walls, dressed lias limestone, and two 2-light casements. Inside, the house retains a stick baluster staircase and a later 19th-century stair with chamfered newels. The rear wing incorporates chamfered beams with run-out stops. Early 19th-century fireplaces with dog-grates are found on the upper floors, while later 19th-century fireplaces have decorative tile surrounds, one featuring an ornate wooden overmantle. The doors are panelled, and some dado panelling remains.
