Description

The Corner House, dated 1786 on the rainwater head, is a house located on Coventry Road in Narborough. It has been altered in the early to mid-19th century. The building is constructed of pale red brick with a colourwashed render plinth, featuring an early to mid-19th century wooden eaves cornice supported by paired brackets, and a Swithland slate roof with flanking brick chimneys. The house has three storeys and three bays, with a raised first floor band and a recessed central course. The early to mid-19th century sashes are set in flush frames, with a configuration of three panes flanking two panes, all having good cambered heads. The central entrance features a four-panelled door with a rectangular fanlight and an elegant wooden doorcase. This doorcase includes an architrave frame, a fluted frieze adorned with flower petal motifs on oval paterae, and a small pediment.

To the right of the house, there is a later 19th century two-storey extension with one bay of sashes and a small irregular projection on the end wall. Attached to this extension is a brick garden wall with a granite plinth and stone coping. The rear of the house has an altered kitchen wing. Inside, there is a very good central staircase from the late 18th century, featuring three delicate turned balusters per tread, newel columns, cut scroll tread ends, and a moulded handrail. The ground floor room to the right includes an early to mid-19th century fireplace surround with moulded pilaster jambs, a frieze and paterae, as well as flanking arched cupboards with fluted pilasters and dentil cornices.
