Description

No 16 on Acresford Road is a house built in the mid-18th century, with some early 19th-century alterations. The building is constructed from red brick and has a roughcast front range, topped with red plain tile roofs. The front range features rendered gable stacks and a moulded brick cornice, while the rear range has a brick-coped western gable, a large central brick ridge stack, and a dentilled brick eaves band.

The house is two storeys high, plus garrets, and has a T-plan layout with a three-bay front range and a four-bay rear range. The front elevation showcases an advanced early 19th-century ground floor, which includes a central pilastered doorcase flanked by canted bays. These bays contain glazing bar sashes and corner pilasters, while the doorcase features a panelled door with an original knocker beneath a divided overlight. Above, there are three glazing bar sashes, with the southernmost having thick glazing bars and a single-pane casement in the upper sash.

The rear range has an off-centre segment-headed doorcase with a panelled door and three segment-headed glazing bar sashes, two of which on the east side have thick glazing bars. Above this door, there are four segment-headed openings, three of which contain glazing bar sashes, while one over the door is blocked. Inside, the front range features a stick baluster staircase, and the rear range includes a large inglenook and stop-chamfered beams.
