Description

Overseal Manor School and its attached outbuildings were built around 1830, with some minor alterations in the early 20th century, late 19th century additions, and further changes around 1970. The building is constructed from pebbledashed rubble with stone dressings, featuring a plinth and a first-floor band. It has a hipped slate roof with wide overhanging eaves and pebbledashed ridge stacks topped with stone cornices. The structure is two storeys high and has three bays arranged in an irregular plan.

The main front includes a two-storey bow on the west side, topped with a shallow leaded domed roof and featuring a full-height glazing bar sash window on the ground floor. On the east side, there is a semi-circular headed doorcase with a Tuscan columned porch and a broken pediment above, leading to a panelled door beneath a traceried fanlight. Narrow inserted glazing bar sashes are positioned on either side of the door. To the east, there is a slightly recessed late 19th-century addition with glazing bar sashes on both levels. Above the door, there is a semi-circular wavy ironwork balcony, and additional sashes are located on the west front.

Inside, the building features an elegant stick baluster staircase with a wreathed handrail, along with original semi-circular headed niches in two ground floor rooms. To the west, there is a 1970 addition that lacks special interest, and to the north, the outbuildings are made of painted red brick with hipped plain tiled roofs. The north range has a prominent central gabled bay with a full-height semi-circular headed blind recess, which contains a central segment headed doorcase flanked by small paned 2-light segment headed windows, along with a similar window arrangement above. The east side mirrors this layout, while the west side features a segment headed doorcase with double doors and a 2-light small paned window above.
