Description

Emmanuel Church, built in 1846, is designed in the Early English style by architect H I Stevens. The church is constructed of rock-faced grey stone and sits on a plinth, topped with a slate roof featuring coped gables, an eaves cornice, and a bellcote. It has a cruciform plan with a nave that consists of four bays, each with four lancet windows, and a triple light window on the west side. The east end is polygonal, and the doors to the south transept and west porch date from the early 20th century, showcasing good ironwork.

Inside, there is notable 20th-century woodwork, including side screens to the transepts made by Doringtons of Heanor, as well as choir stalls, a reredos, and a lectern crafted by Bridgemans of Lichfield. The west window features impressive stained glass from 1937, possibly created by Jones and Willis. Emmanuel Church is set within a large churchyard.
