Description

The Croft, which serves as a house, bursar's office, and has attached gate piers to the west, was built around 1800. It is constructed of red brick and ashlar, topped with a roof made of plain tiles and Welsh slate. The building features stone-coped gables, ashlar gable stacks, and a brick gable stack. It stands two storeys tall.

The east elevation is primarily faced in ashlar and consists of two, four, and one bays. The central four bays project outward, with the ground floor exhibiting rustication. There is a plain band at the first floor level, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course. An off-centre Tuscan Doric porch, which includes a triglyph frieze, leads to half-glazed doors. To the left of the porch is a glazing bar sash window, and to the right are five additional glazing bar sashes. The upper floor features seven glazing bar sashes, with the centre four set in moulded eared architraves.

To the left of the main building is a gabled, almost free-standing, brick wing. The elevation facing the road has two glazing bar sashes with stone lintels on the ground floor and a small three-light casement window above. A dentil eaves cornice adds detail to the roofline. Attached to the left are rusticated ashlar gate piers. The rear wing of the main house includes a Venetian window with a Diocletian window above it, as well as a Trafalgar porch.

Inside, there is a stone-flagged entrance and staircase hall, featuring a cantilevered stone staircase with cast iron balusters and a wreathed handrail.
