Description
No 11, The Cross is a house from the 18th century that was significantly enlarged in 1908-1909 by architects Forsyth and Maule, showcasing the Arts and Crafts Style. The building features a red brick and pebble dash exterior with a polychromatic plain tile hipped roof, brick ridge, and lateral stacks. It is two storeys high and has an L-plan layout.
The elevation facing the road consists of three bays and was refronted in pebble dash during the 1908-1909 renovations. It has a first-floor hoodmould band and overhanging eaves. The centre bay is advanced and gabled, featuring a round arched entrance with projecting impost blocks and voussoirs, leading to a recessed porch. To the left of the entrance is a three-light casement window, and to the right is a four-light casement window. Above, there are three three-light casements, all with white painted frames and square leaded lights. The original 18th-century rear range includes segment-headed casement windows.
Inside, the house has exposed beams, an Arts and Crafts Style staircase, and door and window furniture. It is listed for its group value only.
