Description

3 and 5 The Cross is a house and bank built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with a plain tile roof and features brick gable stacks. The building has a distinctive sawtooth eaves cornice and stands three storeys high. The east elevation consists of three bays.

On the ground floor, there is an early 19th-century style double shop front, which includes a raised and fielded panelled door with a rectangular overlight. This door is flanked by thin coupled fluted pilasters and curved shop windows with a fluted frieze. To the left of the shop front, there is a doorway with a wedge brick lintel, which contains a 20th-century door and overlight. Further left, there is a glazing bar sash window under a wedge brick lintel. Above this, there are three similar windows. The top floor features two Yorkshire sashes and another glazing bar sash, all set under wooden lintels.
