Description
The Weir and Associated Water Management System is a Grade II listed structure made of stone, featuring both ashlared and rubble materials. It is located along the western edge of a small, steep-sided valley and consists of a pond divided into two unequal parts. The main pond is roughly rectangular, while the smaller pond at the northern end is apsidal-shaped. Water flow between the two ponds and the stream is managed by three weirs and a sluice outfall.
On the exterior, the stone wall of the dam runs along the northern edge of the larger pond. A stone-paved spillway extends northwards from the center of the dam, positioned beneath a picturesque triple-arched bridge made of ashlared stone. At the eastern end of the dam, there are masonry linings for a spillway that controls the overflow channel. On the western side, a semi-circular sluice outfall constructed of rubble stone features a lintel carved with the date 1779. Additionally, at the north-west tip of the smaller pond, there is another weir with masonry walls that regulates the outflow.
