Description
Etwall Lodge is a house built in 1812 for William Beard, who was a Trustee of the Sir John Port almshouses, with late 19th-century additions. The building is constructed of red brick with stone and gauged brick dressings, featuring a hipped slate roof with brick ridge stacks and a plain stone eaves band. It is two storeys high and has three bays, with the central bay slightly projecting and topped by a ramped parapet. The central doorcase is plain and pilastered, containing a 20th-century glazed panelled door and a traceried fanlight above. On either side of the door are wide glazing bar sash windows with a central mullion, all set under flat brick arches. Above, there are three more glazing bar sash windows, also under flat arches. The parapet features a stone plaque with an achievement at the centre. The late 19th-century additions are located at the rear of the house. Inside, there is an elegant stick baluster winder staircase with a wreathed handrail, panelled doors, moulded cornices, and a semi-circular niche in the dining room.
