Description

No 80 Main Street is a house that is now partly used as a store. It dates from the late 17th century and has been partly rebuilt in the 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building features box timber framing with brick and plaster infill, as well as red brick that is partly painted. It has a steeply pitched plain tile roof with a brick-coped west gable and three brick stacks, two of which are on the ridge and one on the west gable. The house is two storeys high and has four bays.

The south elevation has been rebuilt in brick, with the western end serving as the house. This section includes 20th-century two-light casement windows flanking a 20th-century glazed door. Both the door and the eastern windows are set under segment heads with raised brick hoods. Above, there are two low 20th-century casement windows. The eastern end of the building is used as a store and features a segment-headed 19th-century doorcase with a hood to the west, leading to a plank door, and a similar doorcase to the east, beyond which are a pair of large wooden doors. Above these double doors is a two-light casement window.

The rear elevation displays a complete exposed timber frame, with one plank door to the west and two grid-covered openings to the east. The west gable wall, which faces the street, has been rebuilt in the 19th century in brick. It features a central segment-headed doorcase with a raised hood and a plank door, flanked by 20th-century windows under similar segment heads. The store section has diagonal braced trusses with cambered ties and windbraces on the sides.
