Description

The Limes is an early 19th-century house with an attached coach house, situated on Main Street in the parish of Etwall. The house is constructed of red brick with stone dressings, topped by a hipped roof covered in plain tiles, featuring a single brick ridge stack. A plain first-floor band runs around the building, and a moulded eaves cornice sits beneath a low parapet.

The main house is two storeys high and three bays wide. A Roman Doric porch, with fluted capitals and corner roundels to the frieze, fronts the south side, sheltering raised and fielded panelled doors with a traceried overlight. To the north of the porch are two, nearly full-height, sash windows with glazing bars, each set under a wedge lintel featuring incised voussoirs and double keystones. Above these are three similar, shallower sash windows under matching lintels.

The attached coach house, to the north of the main house, has a segment-headed blind niche on its upper two storeys. It has double doors at ground level, a stone band at impost level, and a moulded stone arch above.
